| Guitar Amplifier Tips
Like any other piece of equipment an amp
needs periodic maintenance. Looking after your amplifier will keep your
sound clean and crisp, as well as help keep unwanted feedback at bay.
Below we offer some useful information to keep your guitar amp working
great at gigs, jam sessions, or practice.
- Tube amps can collect dust and other
debris over time. Often, dirt and oxidation deposits in tube sockets
as well as in the controls can cause sound problems. Tuning your amp
can help prevent this. You can either tune your amp yourself using an
at-home kit or take it into a repair shop that offers this service.
- How often should you replace the tube in
your amp? Depending on the amount you use your guitar amplifier, you
may want to consider changing your tube every 6 months to 2 years. For
amps that are used frequently every 6 months; for infrequent use (less
than 2 times a week) change your tube about every year or two.
- Keeping guitar amplifiers safe from dust
or debris is easy. To keep your amp clean keep it covered when you
aren't using it, don't place it near damp areas, and don't keep your
amp in your car.
